Social Media Updates | June 2019

It’s the end of June which means it’s time to share all the social media updates that have happened over the past month, keeping you updated with the latest changes.


This month they have been working on an exciting new feature which is a stop motion tool for Instagram Stories which will allow you to create engaging video updates without actually having to record.



They’ve been working on an update which has been a long time coming, the ability to preview your Facebook Page posts before sharing. This will help to ensure that what you publish appears exactly how you want it to look. We’re not sure when this feature will be launched however we will keep you updated when we have more news.


There has been a lot of criticism over how YouTube has facilitated extreme movements and communities so they have been working to clean up the platform. As a part of this cleanup they have started testing a new option in which by default all video comments are hidden with users having to click on ‘comments’ to view them.

This example was shared by XDA Developers and as you can see you now have to make a conscious effort to view the comments instead of just scrolling down, with the aim being that it will help to reduce abusive comments, concerning content and spam. It’s only in the testing phase at the moment so it’s unsure whether or not YouTube will be rolling this out in the future.


They’ve been working on a new feature called ‘Complete the Look’ which will provide related recommendations based on the products you’ve searched for and relative trends.

Pinterest have explained this in more detail:

"Complete the Look leverages rich scene context to recommend visually compatible results in Fashion and Home Decor Pins. Complete the Look takes context like an outfit, body type, season, indoors vs. outdoors, various pieces of furniture, and the overall aesthetics of a room, to power taste-based recommendations across visual search technology."

It’s designed to help connect users to more relevant recommendations and product matches, contributing towards their eCommerce ambitions. Currently it’s being tested internally and is a feature that will be launched soon.


There have been quite a few new features for LinkedIn recently with even more announced the past month including video messaging and photo tagging. The video trend is continuing to grow therefore LinkedIn has added an option within messages allowing users to record and send video clips. They recently reported that their users are 20x more likely to share a video on the platform in comparison to any other type of post, so this is a great way to make your messaging more engaging and stand out.

Moving onto photo tagging, the ability to tag users in photos was made available to the majority of users the other month however they have now officially launched this feature to all users.

Earlier this month Google rolled out its new core update officially named ‘June 2019 Core Update’. However Google actually announced this update the day before it was rolled out which is something they’ve never done before, normally you find out after it has been completed (I guess they wanted to prepare us).

When Google updates the algorithm it can have an impact on your website which can be positive or negative. It’s possible that you might have moved up the rankings but you also might have moved down, therefore losing traffic and visitors. It’s important to check your Google Analytics to see if the algorithm has negatively affected your website as there are changes that you would need to make. If you log into analytics look at the traffic from the date of the update compared to the previous month you will be able to assess the impact, in this case it was started on June 3rd and completed by June 8th so they’re the dates you would want to analyse.
