Rosie Heptonstall
Rosie Heptonstall is Clever Business Websites’ marketing manager. She loves websites and working with small businesses, and has spent many years learning about what makes small businesses tick. Rosie also thinks that a small business is more interesting and more fun to work for than a large corporation. But that’s just her personal opinion...
She likes developing small business websites because she gets to work with real people, rather than a corporate machine. And she loves to see the difference that a great website can make to a start-up or small business.
Rosie believes that simplicity should be a core principle of any marketing communication and she’s spent many a meeting trying to convince colleagues to ‘cut the crap’ and say what they mean. Her favourite business books are ‘Brilliant Business Writing’ by Neil Taylor and ‘The Honest Persuaders’ by John Bunyard, both of which encourage direct communication without the spin.
On marketing, Rosie says: “Small business, big business, medium sized business – whatever size you are you have to try to match up great marketing with an even greater user experience. Don’t use marketing to fool people, use it to tempt and persuade and then deliver what you’ve said you will. That’s how you encourage repeat business. Marketing should be clever and interesting and not quite what people expect, but it should never be a mask to hide the truth.”
